In a bid to enhance bilateral ties, China has urged the United Kingdom to foster a fair and non-discriminatory business atmosphere for Chinese enterprises operating within its borders. This appeal emerged during the 11th China-UK Strategic Dialogue held in Beijing, where discussions centered on deepening cooperation between the two nations.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed China’s desire for the UK to create favorable conditions for Chinese businesses, a move he believes will support the ongoing development of relations between the two countries. Wang highlighted the resumption of exchanges and cooperation across various sectors as a result of recent high-level engagements. He underscored the necessity to maintain dialogue, expand practical cooperation, and champion multilateralism, especially in light of increasing global uncertainties.

Further discussions at the strategic dialogue emphasized the vital roles China and the UK play as major international actors in tackling global challenges and fostering a more balanced system of global governance. Meanwhile, UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper reiterated Britain’s commitment to preserving stable and constructive relations with China. She stressed the growing importance of stronger dialogue and cooperation between the two nations as they navigate a complex international landscape.

Cooper also reaffirmed the UK’s longstanding stance on the Taiwan issue while advocating for continued engagement with China and the management of differences through dialogue. Economic and trade cooperation emerged as a central theme during the talks, with both sides exploring potential opportunities in emerging sectors like science, technology, artificial intelligence, climate initiatives, and innovation. Cooper’s visit included stops in Beijing and Shenzhen, aimed at broadening collaboration in these areas.

Analysts interpret this dialogue as both governments’ efforts to transform recent political agreements into tangible outcomes while sustaining communication on global matters and economic collaboration. This strategic engagement reflects a mutual intention to strengthen ties and address shared challenges on the international stage.
