Keir Starmer, the outgoing Prime Minister of the UK, has expressed his belief that the Labour Party is well-positioned to win the next general election under the leadership of his anticipated successor, Andy Burnham. Starmer emphasized that the current government has laid a robust foundation for future triumphs.

In his initial interview since announcing his resignation, Starmer took the opportunity to reflect on several key accomplishments during his tenure. Among these achievements are Labour’s victory in the 2024 election, significant strides in reducing child poverty, improvements in NHS waiting times, bolstering economic stability, and rebuilding public confidence in critical sectors such as defence and immigration.

Addressing potential speculation about his relationship with Burnham, Starmer was clear in dismissing any notion of personal rivalry. He assured that he would offer his full support to Burnham, or any future Labour leader, if they sought his advice. Furthermore, he highlighted the inseparability of domestic issues from international affairs, underscoring the influence of global conflicts on the UK’s economic and security landscape.

Starmer also confirmed his intention to continue serving as a Member of Parliament until the forthcoming general election. However, he disclosed that he has yet to determine his plans following his departure from office, leaving open the question of his future endeavors post-premiership.
