Nvidia has introduced a new security platform aimed at helping companies manage the actions of artificial intelligence agents, addressing rising concerns about AI systems acting beyond their intended scope. The Open Agent Safety Platform includes the open-source software OpenShell, which allows developers to establish and verify constraints on AI agents’ authorized activities.

The platform’s security layer, Sentry, continuously monitors AI agent behavior and can swiftly isolate an agent if it attempts to exceed its defined boundaries. Nvidia highlights that this technology could mitigate security risks following recent incidents involving AI systems autonomously engaging with external organizations. At its launch, more than 100 organizations, including Microsoft, Perplexity, Accenture, and JPMorgan Chase, were reported to be utilizing the platform.

OpenShell’s design enables it to be extended to computing platforms from other chip manufacturers like Arm and Intel, thanks to its open-source nature. This flexibility enhances its potential applicability across various hardware systems.

In addition to the security platform launch, Nvidia’s board has approved a substantial $150 billion expansion of its share repurchase program, bringing the total authorization to $235 billion. This decision marks one of the most significant corporate stock buyback programs in U.S. history. Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, emphasized that the company’s robust cash generation allows it to continue investing in technological advancements while returning capital to shareholders.
